Words and Music: A Literary Feast, which takes place Nov. 15-18, 2018, at the Pere Marquette Hotel in New Orleans, has released its 2018 lineup. Participants includes Leah Chase, Kim Vaz-Deville, Jason Berry, Michael White, Susan Larson, Elizabeth M. Williams, Peter Cooley, Maurice Carlos Ruffin and Jack Bedell, among others.
After being operated for 20 years by the Pirate's Alley Faulkner Society, the festival will for the first time be under the directorship of One Book One New Orleans (OBONO), a local nonprofit organization with a mission to make New Orleans a more literate city.
The Peauxdunque Writer's Alliance and its publication, the Peauxdunque Review, have worked with OBONO to create the inaugural Words & Music Writing Competition. In addition to the discussions taking place at the Pere Marquette, Words and Music will host several special events at different venues, including Cafe Reconcile, Drink Lab NOLA, Dooky Chase, The Dragonfly: Poetry and Performance Ritual Space and the Ashe Power House.
The event at Cafe Reconcile will honor Herreast Harrison for her work in community literacy. Through the Donald Harrison, Sr. Foundation, Harrison has given more than 35,000 books to local children.
