Three local authors who are known nationally for their thrillers will discuss their new books at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, at the East Bank Regional Library, 4747 W. Napoleon, Metairie. This event is free of charge and open to the public.
Bill Loehfelm, The Devil's Muse and the Maureen Coughlin series
It’s Mardi Gras in New Orleans and rookie cop Maureen Coughlin has no idea what she’s in for. Her night working the parades begins calmly—until a half-naked man careens through the crowd and throws himself onto the hood of an oncoming SUV. As she tries to deal with the incident, Maureen hears gunshots. Moments later, with three wounded and a handful of drunken witnesses, Maureen has a full-fledged investigation on her hands. Who was the shooter? Who was he after? Who’s the next target? City bigwigs begin pressuring Maureen and her crew for quick answers.
Bill Loehfelm is the author of the critically-acclaimed Devil series about New Orleans Police Department rookie Maureen Coughlin, featuring the novels, Let the Devil Out (a Boston Globe Year's Best for 2016), Doing the Devil’s Work, The Devil in Her Way, and The Devil She Knows. He is also the author of the stand-alone novels, Fresh Kills and Bloodroot, set in his hometown of Staten Island. His short fiction and non-fiction have appeared in several anthologies. He lives in New Orleans with his wife, AC Lambeth, a writer and yoga instructor, and their dog. He plays drums in a rock-'n-'roll band.
Barry Morgan, Habana Intrigue
Terry Quinn, an aging American Agent, for an unnamed government department, is sent to Cuba to plan and arrange the kidnapping of a Russian officer. He is assigned a young marine to help carry out the mission and to train for future missions. He sails into Cuba under the guise of a retired businessman visiting Cuba as a tourist. He is met by American and Canadian agents already there to coordinate the defection of a Russian diplomat. He is introduced to a beautiful Cuban woman who is well connected and works with the U.S. occasionally. They form a romantic bond and she becomes a key factor in carrying out his mission.
Barry Morgan retired from the United States in the late 1990s and now lives with his new wife on their sailboat in the Caribbean.
Erica Spindler, Fallen Five
Detectives Micki Dare and Zach Harris are called in to investigate when a millionaire developer leaps from atop his luxury hotel on the night of its grand opening. After Micki receives a mysterious package from her long-dead mentor, and Zach suspects something supernatural is working against them, they realize this is no ordinary case. A dark force is once again threatening the Big Easy.
Raised in Rockford, Illinois, Spindler had planned on being an artist, earning a BFA from Delta State University and an MFA from the University of New Orleans in the visual arts. In June of 1982, in bed with a cold, she picked up a romance novel for relief from daytime television. She was immediately hooked, and soon decided to try to write one herself. She leaped from romance to suspense in 1996 with her novel Forbidden Fruit. Her novel Bone Cold won the Daphne du Maurier Award for excellence. She received a Kiss of Death Award for her novels Forbidden Fruit and Dead Run and was a three-time RITA Award finalist. Publishers Weekly awarded the audio version of her novel Shocking Pink a Listen Up Award, naming it one of the best audio mystery books of 1998.
