As part of the East Baton Rouge Parish Library’s Special Collections Lecture Series, co-authors Mary H. Manhein and Jessica H. Schexnayder, author of "Fragile Grounds: Louisiana’s Endangered Cemeteries," will discuss their book at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2018, in Conference Room 102 at the Main Library at Goodwood, 7711 Goodwood Blvd., Baton Rouge. A question-and-answer period will follow the presentation.

Also on Oct. 17, New York Times bestselling and Newbery award-winning young adult (YA) book author Kwame Alexander will be read from and discuss his latest book “Swing” at 6 p.m. in the Large Meeting Room at the Main Library at Goodwood, 7711 Goodwood Blvd., Baton Rouge.

About “Fragile Grounds”
The book compiles stories and photographs of endangered cemeteries throughout Louisiana’s coastal zone and beyond, and highlights the state’s diversity by showing its unique burial customs and traditions, while also identifying the urgent need for ongoing documentation of cultural elements at risk. These burial places link the fragile land to the frailty of the state’s threatened community structures.

A book signing will follow the presentation with a special musical performance by Randy Preston.
