Lake Douglas to discuss 'Buildings of New Orleans'

Lake Douglas, PhD, co-author of a new book titled "Buildings of New Orleans," will discuss it and talk about the unique architectural style of the city at 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 4, 2018, at the East Bank Regional Library, 4747 W. Napoleon, Metairie.

This event is co-sponsored by the Tennessee Williams/New Orleans Literary Festival, an annual five-day literary festival that occurs in the city of New Orleans each spring. The festival is dedicated to the Pulitzer Prize-winning American playwright Tennessee Williams. Every year, it features several events related to the long career of Williams, as well as writing workshops, panel discussions, literary readings, stage performances, a book fair, music, writing contests, and other events.

The event is free and open to the public. There is no registration.

"Buildings of New Orleans" is a detailed guidebook to New Orleans architecture, a post–Hurricane Katrina overview of buildings, neighborhoods and landscapes. It contains nearly 300 structures, open spaces, and lesser-known places, enhanced by 175 photographs and 23 maps.

The book is organized into 13 neighborhood tours, two road trips into nearby parishes, and three excursions up and down the Mississippi River along the historic Great River Road, and accented by sidebars from renowned authors, cuisine, and jazz to public markets, green spaces, and historic preservation.

Douglas is Associate Dean for Research and Development in LSU's College of Art and Design and professor of Landscape Architecture in the Robert Reich School of Landscape Architecture. He is the author of numerous books, including "Public Spaces, Private Gardens: A History of Designed Landscapes in New Orleans."
