Coming up at the East Bank Regional Library in Metairie

Jason Comboy will discuss “Lost Settlements of Southeast Louisiana,” at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, at the East Bank Regional Library, 4747 W. Napoleon Ave., Metairie. During the presentation, Comboy will discuss lost villages, encampments and outposts that he says have nearly vanished from the map and memory.

Comboy’s presentation occurs as part of the regularly scheduled meeting of the Jefferson Parish Historical Society. He holds a master’s degree in preservation studies from the Tulane School of Architecture as well as a master’s degree in business administration from the University of New Orleans. His professional focus centers on the issues of planning, permitting and usage that affect emerging businesses trying to navigate municipal regulations. He consults with an emphasis on protecting and revitalizing the historic fabric of neighborhoods while helping entrepreneurs initiate the start-up process.  

Then on Feb. 4, Anthony J. Rockwell, a freelance author, speaker, competitive bodybuilder, and engineer, will discuss his new book, “The Power of Life, a Story about Tragedy to Triumph,” at 7 p.m. at the East Bank Regional Library, 4747 W. Napoleon, Metairie.

Rockwell’s story began one morning when he left for work and suffered a horrific accident. He was 36 years of age. The ordeal would leave him deaf, unable to speak, and suffering from a host of other injuries. Through years of rehabilitation, he recreated himself, both physically and mentally. He says he returned to a life that was better than the one he had before.
