Louisiana's Phillips relates a chance meeting that forms a lifelong friendship in his book 'When I Wished Upon a Star'

Dr. Brandon Lane Phillips of northern Louisiana was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect shortly after his birth. Questioning God’s plan for him, he prayed for answers.

Soon after Phillips got a chance to meet one of his favorite TV show characters, Jeremy Miller, who played Ben Seaver on “Growing Pains,” through the Starlight Children’s Foundation. Their meeting, along with the show's cast member Kirk Cameron, would later shape both their lives and is the subject of Phillips’ book, “When I Wished Upon a Star: From Broken Homes to Mended Hearts” (Thomas Nelson).

The book explains how God strategically placed these two people in each other’s lives when they needed each other the most.

Phillips is now a pediatric cardiologist who serves on the board of trustees of the Starlight Children’s Foundation.
