What's happening at the Baton Rouge Library

The Main Library of Baton Rouge presents "Sabotage, Sobriety, Surrender," an exhibition featuring the works of artist and author of "Art & Addiction," Ben Peabody, from Sept. 1-30. There also will be a free presentation led by Peabody at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16, at the Main Library that will feature two of the subjects of his art, as they speak about their experiences in overcoming addiction. East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner Dr. William “Beau” Clark will share insights on the effects of addiction and the statistics that reflect the toll it takes on life and longevity. Representatives from various community addiction resource groups and organizations also will be available at the program. A book signing will follow the program. Signed copies of the author’s book will be available for purchase at the event. To learn more about artist/author Ben Peabody, visit his website at http://benpeabody.com/.

While you're at the library...September is Library Card Sign-Up Month. The East Baton Rouge Parish Library (EBRPL) is joining with the American Library Association (ALA) and public libraries nationwide to make sure that every student has the most important school supply of all – a FREE Library card. Studies show that children who are read to in the home and who use the library perform better in school, and they can turn to the library for materials, programs and knowledgeable library staff to support academic achievement. This year, Disney Pixar's superhero family, the Incredibles, will team up with the ALA to promote the value of a library card. With this all-access pass, you’ll get FREE use of online databases and training resources, print books and magazines, e-books and online magazines, audiobooks, CDs, DVDs and BluRay, streaming movies, online homework help, genealogy research, workforce development, business solutions and assistance for entrepreneurs, Arduino kits, children’s storytimes, meeting rooms, free computer classes, programs and events on all kinds of subjects and so much more! For more information about Library Card Sign-Up Month, signing up for a free East Baton Rouge Parish Library card or for general information about the Library, call (225) 231-3710, pick up a copy of our monthly newsletter The Source or visit the Library’s website at www.ebrpl.com
