Lafayette Public Library serves every resident with free and equal access to all media, the newest technology at 9 locations in our parish including a totally renovated main branch in Lafayette’s downtown. From traditional books to digital books, programming, classes open to residents from early years to many years, meeting rooms and use of computers to tout only a few, our Lafayette parish library offers choices galore to explore lifelong learning. The library has come to be integral in our lives and needed in our community more than ever before or even thought possible.
Each year the Lafayette Public Library Foundation (LPLF) honors outstanding supporters of the Lafayette Public Library with its annual Awards Luncheon and Silent Auction. This year the event will be April 13 at City Club in River Ranch of Lafayette with the theme being “Read Local,” intending the double entendre of reading at your local library and as a nod to local authors. Tickets are $35 each to attend the event which features a raffle and silent auction to benefit the 501 (c) 3 whose only beneficiary is the Lafayette Public Library.
In line with the theme, the Foundation is offering a portion of the banquet room to allow local authors to display and sell books. The purchase of a ticket to attend the Awards Luncheon will allow a local author to reserve a spot at the “Local Author Table” on a “first come, first served” basis; such spots are limited. Doors to the event open at 10:30 a.m., allowing an hour for mixing and mingling and for viewing the displays of local authors and silent auction array before the luncheon begins at 11:30 a.m. Local authors in attendance may arrive at 10 a.m. to set up their display and to be recognized during the program.
To reserve a spot at the “Local Author Table” call Joan Wingate at (337) 654-9696 or send an email to wingate1738@cox.net.
