Marybeth Lima, author of “Adventures of a
Louisiana Birder” (LSU Press), will discuss the book and explain the joys of birding at 7
p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, at the East Bank Regional Library, 4747 W. Napoleon.
Metairie.
This event is co-sponsored by the Tennessee
Williams/New Orleans Literary Festival, an annual five-day literary festival
that occurs in the city of New Orleans each spring.
The book showcases how one woman goes from
casual observer to obsessive bird nerd as she traverses Louisiana’s avian
paradise. In “Adventures of a Louisiana Birder,” readers follow Lima
across her adopted state in search of 300 species of birds. Bisected by the
Mississippi flyway and home to 400 miles of coast, Louisiana has a variety of
habitats, which serve as a backdrop to her journeys.
Professor of biological and agricultural
engineering at LSU, Lima is author of “Building Playgrounds, Engaging
Communities: Creating Safe and Happy Places for Children” and coauthor of “Play
On! Evidence-based Playground Activities and Service-Learning: Engineering
in Your Community.”
