HARK Festival Oct. 12 offers creative exploration

The inaugural HARK Festival, a day-long festival and student competition, will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, 2019, at LSU Shreveport. Held in conjunction with the Pioneer Heritage Center’s Open Day on the campus of LSU Shreveport, the HARK Festival celebrates the history and heritage of the Ark-La-Tex (Arkansas, Louisiana, and Texas) by encouraging students to explore regional history and express their findings creatively in categories including writing, visual arts, handicrafts, and entertainment. Admission is free and there is no cost for students to submit an entry. For complete festival details or to submit an entry, visit www.harkfestival.com.

Any student who is currently registered as homeschooled or enrolled in a K-12 school, college, or university, public or private, is eligible to participate in the HARK Festival. Students can compete for cash prizes in each age group by submitting projects ranging from essays and photographs to recipes, original songs and more. Submissions are currently being accepted and may be submitted now through 5 p.m. CST on Friday, Sept. 27. To read the complete festival rules or submit projects, visit www.harkfestival.com.

The HARK Festival is a regional history competition run by Bishop Blue Foundation with the support of LSU Shreveport and The Noel Foundation. To keep up with news and
