Jefferson Parish Library to host spelling bee

The Jefferson Parish Library will hold its Seventh Annual Spelling Bee for adults at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 17, at the East Bank Regional Library, 4747 W. Napoleon, Metairie. Adults 18 years of age and older may participate in the free event that's open to the public. Registration is not required. Participants should simply come to the event on the day it is held.

The purpose of the Adult Spelling Bee is to promote good spelling and good spelling habits, expand vocabulary and encourage accurate word usage and pronunciation. The Jefferson Parish Library’s Adult Spelling Bee is a contest in which individual competitors are eliminated as they fail to spell a given word correctly.

The library’s first adult spelling bee, held in August 2013 at the East Bank Regional Library, featured almost 20 competitors and has grown steadily since.

For more information regarding this presentation, contact Chris Smith, Manager of Adult Programming for the library, at 504-889-8143 or wcsmith@jefferson.lib.la.us.
